Manchester to Hexham via the Yorkshire Dales

We left Dubai at 3:00am and after landing in Manchester at 7:50am we picked up our trusty car a Citroen for the next 3 weeks and hit the road. We headed for Hexham on the Scottish Borders via the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

We stopped at Skipton for a coffee and saw the canal boats before heading through the Dale's to Hexham. Weather is good 25 Celsius today so great for driving.

This area of the Yorkshire Dales - Nidderdale is an ' Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' (AONB). We also drove though the North Pennines which is also an (AONB).

For the next two nights we are staying at the Hadrian Hotel in Hexham which was recently renovated. The Hadrian Hotel is a beautiful property set in the rolling hills of Northumberland, an ideal base for those doing Hadrian's wall, exploring the museums and sights in the area.

While we are here we will explore Hadrain's Wall. Hadrian's Wall was built by the Romans to keep out the unconquered people of Scotland. Construction started around A.D. 122, after a visit to Britain by Emperor Hadrian (reign A.D. 117-138), a ruler determined to consolidate the Roman Empire's borders.

Once its construction was finished, it is thought to have been covered in plaster and then whitewashed: its shining surface reflected the sunlight and was visible for miles around.

Had a traditional Sunday roast for dinner complete with Yorkshire Pudding.
