After a full Scottish breakfast without the haggis we hit the road to Cairnryan to get the ferry overnight Larnein Northern Ireland. Sun is shining this morning.
On the way to the ferry we did a stop at the Cardoness Castle which is Scottish tower house in style. Half price entry with our English Herritage pass. This castle stands on a rocky outcrop above the estury of the River Fleet. It washed residence of the McColloch famy in the late 1400s who had a long sometimes violent guess with their neighbors. These guess led to their downfall.
We then stopped at the Carsluth Castle a lot smaller than Cardoness also tower house in style. Carsluth is 7 miles from Cardoness and overlooks Wigtown Bay. Remodeled in the1560s by the Brouns it has a lot of architectural details and was a modest home of the Scottish nobilty who did not achieve high rank unlike Cardoness who we more noteworthy.
We drove to Cairnryan and as we are a little early dove up the coast a bit into some spectacular scernery.
We boarded the ferry and the crossing is nice an flat thank goodness as I haven't any sea sick pills. We opted for the club lounge were you get free wine and snacks in a quite lounge with comfy chairs for the 2 hour voyage.
After picking up a few provisions in Larne we drove along the coastal route to Ballygally. The drive reminded me of the coast road to Second Valley.
Our apartment is amazing and Julie with her daughter Abbey showed us around. We are going to be very happy here.
